Egypt has received 299,700 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the UK as a gift last Monday, according to a statement by the UK Embassy in Egypt.

The UK has granted this shipment to Egypt under the COVAX Programme, supported by UNICEF and the World Health Organization.

The shipment comes as part of the first batch, including 100 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, that the UK government aims to give away to several countries around the world within the coming year.

Last Friday, Minister of Health Hala Zayed announced that Egypt received 1.766 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine under the COVAX Programme in collaboration with the Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), the World Health Organization, and UNICEF.
