Efforts are underway to renovate Barbar coast as part of a larger plan to enhance the cleanliness and beauty of the Northern Governorate.
The plan also envisages activating the environment police and steeping up awareness campaigns.
Details were revealed during a meeting between Northern Municipality director general Lamya Al Fadhala and Northern Municipal Council services committee chairman Dr Sayed Shubbar Al Wedai.
The meeting also reviewed the clean-up needs of Northern Governorate constituency one which includes Meqsha, Helat Al Abd Al Saleh, Bahrain Fort Village, Janusan, Karranah, Jid Al Haj and parts of Duraz.
“We have gone over a proposal to launch a project to revamp Barbar Coast under the slogan ‘Sustainability of Coasts is our National Responsibility’,” said Dr Al Wedai.
“We agreed to organise an event in collaboration with the Northern Municipality in line with their ‘Clean and Beautiful’ campaign aimed at elevating the general cleanliness of the entire governorate.
“Revamping the coast can be done through several awareness campaigns regarding cleanliness while also involving active civil societies in the constituency.
“It is also important to activate the role of the environment police in the governorate and collaborate with the private sector to remove violations and improve the coast by developing entertainment facilities making the coast a tourist attraction.”
He also highlighted that enhancing the coast will also provide a social outlet for citizens and residents as well as beautify the area.
