Former Pakistan international Bazid Khan refuses to speculate how Imran Khan - his uncle and Pakistan's greatest sporting icon - is going to perform as the prime minister of his country.

"You know everybody in Pakistan is now expecting miracles from Imran. But we have to remain realistic. I am confident that he will make a difference. And I know he will bring about a change in the way sports is run in the country," Bazid, son of Pakistan batting legend Majid Khan, told Khaleej Times during an interview in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

"He (Imran) has always been a massive name in Pakistan. I mean he ended his career with the World Cup in his hands! Then to still stay in the limelight for so long and still have that charisma is incredible. We have got legends in every sports, but he still stands out," Bazid added.

The former Pakistan batsman believes sports will get a shot in the arm with Imran as the leader of the country.

"Now the feeling in Pakistan is because we got somebody of that calibre that not only cricket, every other sports in Pakistan will get proper infrastructure and proper structure to produce world-class athletes," he said.

"And that's the biggest hope. Naturally you think because he is a sportsman sports will be uplifted with him as the leader of the country.

"Obviously there is a lot more on his agenda but as a sportsman, my biggest expectation is that he will help change the sporting culture in the country."

Domestic cricket, according to Bazid, needs immediate attention.

"We are still producing good players, but we can't deny that we need to improve our domestic structure in cricket. Former players have been very vocal about it. Now they will probably take steps," he said.

Apart from domestic cricket, football, hockey and squash should also be top priority of Imran's administration.

"In football, we have got huge potential. Unfortunately, we don't have enough fields. I hope that's something he will work on," Bazid said.

"And I hope hockey and squash - two sports that Pakistan have a glorious history - will thrive again under Imran.

"See sports is such a massive field, it has got huge commercial potential as well. Pakistan need to look into that aspect as well. Yes, we do produce legends, but we lack a proper system. So we need to work on that."

Now fans will also be tempted to dream of seeing regular international cricket in Pakistan again.

"That's the goal. Actually the process has already started. It will take time. We have to ensure foreign teams that it's safe to tour Pakistan," he said.

"I expect Imran to play a big role in that. The eventual goal is to get bilateral series back in Pakistan. But right now we should focus on domestic structure which needs a lot of work."
