Muscat: A total of 309 expats were arrested for violating the labour law and another 459 were deported in one week, Oman's Ministry of Manpower announced.
This information was made available when the ministry released its weekly indicators of expat workers who were arrested in a joint operation with the Royal Oman Police.
The workers were arrested between February 2 and February 9, 2019. Of the total arrested, 171 were runaway workers, 121 were freelance workers, and the other 17 were referred to by other authorities,
Muscat, the capital, recorded the highest number of arrests with 117 followed by Northern Batinah governorate with 41.
During the same week, 459 illegal labourers were deported.
