H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health said on Tuesday that the mandatory health insurance project for private sector institutions will be applied gradually before the end of the year.
The Ministry of Health in cooperation with a South Korean insurance company has conducted a study on the project. The study was approved by the Council of Ministers and assigned to a semi-governmental institution for implementation.
Also, the ministry has established the Investment and Finance Department to create database of all plots and other assets belonging to it. MoH plans to use these assets for investment purposes in coordination with other government agencies.
In response to a query about the high fees charged by private hospitals, H E Dr Sa’eedi said, “Fees charged by private healthcare institutions in the sultanate are reasonable compared to many other countries. The government will not allow the fees charged by private health institutions to be very high.”
The ministry also supports the private health sector by allowing its doctors to work there outside official working hours. “Omani doctors have experience and skills because they have been trained in various medical institutions in North America, Europe, Australia and other countries,” H E Dr Sa’eedi said.
