Kuwait’s Public Authority for Sports (PAS) has passed new FIFA-approved rules to govern the country’s football federation, just months after the world soccer’s governing body lifted a two-year ban on Kuwaiti footballers.

In a meeting involving its board of directors, PAS has decided to form a sports federation at the school level in a bid to discover hidden talents, it said in a statement yesterday. The statement cited Information Minister and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri as saying that the sports body is determined to support young athletes as they strive for global recognition.

FIFA last December lifted a two-year ban imposed on Kuwait’s football federation, triggering a wave of joy across the soccer-crazed Gulf nation.
