The ability of the public to reach out to their society’s law and order machinery is at the heart of a nation’s health and well-being and Dubai Police’s Al Ameen service is upholding this virtue with growing success. The 24-hour, toll-free service, officially launched in September 2003, encourages people to contact the police regarding any matter that concerns them with the absolute guarantee of confidentiality. From concerns of harassment to suspicious motives to outright criminal intentions or any other matter that troubles someone, Al Ameen is extending a helping hand and, in so doing, is forging an extremely important, valuable and reassuring bond between governance and the people.
The first half of this year alone has seen 5,493 reports pour in via various channels such as phone calls, fax, sms, email and WhatsApp messages and Emiratis and expatriates, men and women in nearly equal numbers are availing themselves of Al Ameen to report crimes, social issues, traffic concerns, security-related cases and other matters. Clearly, Al Ameen has succeeded in its stated mission of ensuring safety and security for the people of Dubai.
