SFAX - The air transport sector in the region of Sfax will be strengthened by the creation of a private air transport company called "Syphax Airlines." The project will be created as part of a limited liability company whose capital is 10 million dinars. It will be based in the Sfax Thyna international airport and would generate 150 jobs, 80% of which for university graduates.
Project promoter, Tunisian businessman Mohamed Frikha said the project is awaiting the approval of the Transport Ministry after submitting, last July 2011, the authorisation application, underlining that specific technical studies of the project have already been initiated by an international consultancy firm.
Once the authorisation secured, the company will enter into operation from May 2012, knowing that procedures for the acquisition of two Airbus A 319 from France have already been launched.
"Syphax Airlines," will specialise mainly in international flights with 8 flights per day from Sfax Thyna international airport to several cities in France, Italy, Belgium, Tripoli, Turkey and Morocco.
Mr. Frikha also said that special flights to the Middle East and North America will be scheduled, depending on the economic dynamics that should be experienced by Tunisia.
The new project will contribute to boosting the Sfax Thyna international airport whose performance remains modest, despite the large volume of exports from the region.
