Arab Finance: Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem emphasized the government's commitment to supporting the marble and granite industry, while increasing exports to $1 billion annually, according to a statement.
Hashem and Mohamed El-Sewedy, Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), discussed ways to face market challenges to double marble and granite exports in the coming period.
The meeting explores all avenues for advancing the marble and granite sector. The plans covered maximizing the utilization of available raw materials, expanding exploration activities, and developing regulations governing this activity to achieve greater value and discipline.
Furthermore, the minister reviewed mechanisms to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian raw materials in foreign markets.
They also addressed the efforts of the National Service Projects Organization (NSPO), represented by the Egyptian Company for Mining and Quarry Management, to facilitate operations for prospectors and quarry owners.
Meanwhile, the government is constructing 18 new weighbridges as part of joint efforts to strengthen the monitoring system and maximize resource utilization.
The ministry seeks to increase the number of operating quarries by the end of 2026, which will contribute to scaling production, boosting the sector's exports, and reducing the import bill.
