    TUNIS (TAP) - A ministerial working session was held, on Wednesday, to look at a set of development projects for the benefit of Tataouine governorate.

    These projects consist in setting up an investment and development fund to finance projects in various fields in the region, particularly those related to the exploitation of natural, cultural and tourist resources.

    The meeting which was chaired by Minister to the Prime Minister in charge of Economic Affairs Co-ordination and Monitoring Nidhal Ouerfelli, turned mainly on the achievement of a set of infrastructure, spatial planning and sustainable development projects, as road paving and conducting a feasibility study to connect Tataouine to the highway in June 2014.

    It also turned on finishing off preliminary studies on the extension and fitting-out of the purification plants in Tataouine and Ghomrassen by the end of September, and the need to speed up revision of projects underway in the health sector.

    The meeting was an occasion to adopt a set of measures in the industrial and handicrafts sectors to encourage private promoters create industrial production units of plaster and by-products, bricks and porcelain.

    As regards the agriculture sector, decisions were made to set up a schedule to speed up the settlement of collective lands.

    It was also decided to construct water tanks in El Marai, create remote water in the region and drill three prospection wells to reinforce the drinking water network.

    An agreement was reached to create nuclei stemming from the technological parks to develop the Sahara resources in the el Gordhab agricultural training centre.

    For the higher education and vocational training sector, it was decided to devote a part of the Tataouine higher technological studies institute to set up a science village and create a training and professional apprenticeship centre in specialties in accordance with the region's energy resources.

    The meeting agreed to create a second municipal district in Tataouine municipality and include the project of creating a municipality in Essamar in the first list of the new municipalities to be created in chief delegations.
