LA KASBAH - The Crisis Response Unit took stock of the general security situation in the country and at the border with Libya as it met, Friday, under chairmanship of interim PM Mehdi Jomaa.

It also focused attention on civil society organisations (CSOs) and political parties in the run-up to elections.

Jomaa reaffirmed the Government's commitment to draw the legal and judicial consequences of any possible breaches of provisions of decree laws 87 and 88, dated September 2011, on CSOs and parties.

Audits were launched and competent authorities informed, particularly regarding foreign assistance and donations, he said.

Jomaa aserted that necessary measures will be taken without delay to settle these issues so that appropriate conditions can be made available for the conduct of elections, a press release of the Prime Ministry indicated.

Additionally, the PM directed to mobilise funds and material resources needed to summon the military reserve force so that they contribute to securing the forthcoming elections, bearing in mind that security forces are entrusted with safeguarding public order and tracking down terrorists.

He also gave the green light to implementing measures which provide for blocking websites related to terrorism and tracking and identifying users and called on civil society to help face up to such web pages.

The contribution of citizens to uncovering and denouncing terrorist groups was likewise praised; offering incentives for providing information likely to help arrest terrorists while guaranteeing the anonymity of those who accomplish this national duty was also discussed at the meeting.

The Unit reviewed the operations conducted by the military and security forces which allowed to dismantle several terrorist groups.

Ways to anticipate and thwart recurrent terrorist threats were also looked at the meeting; the Response Unit hailed, in this vein, the joint efforts of the security and military institutions.

The PM recommended to "neutralise" as soon as possible mosques which are not under the authority of the Religious Affairs Ministry and reopen them afterwards.

The meeting was attended by the Interior, National Defense, Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs Ministers as well as the Minister Delegate in charge of security and the Secretary of State for Regional and Local Affairs.
