TUNIS, May 3, 2011 (TAP) - Tunisia might host a new regional chapter of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development(AAAID), Mr. Said al-Sharhan, the Authority's Chairman, said on Tuesday, specifying that the issue is under consideration.

Mr. Al-Sharhan co-chaired with Agriculture and Environment Minister Mokhtar Jellali a working session on directing Arab investments to agricultural projects in Tunisia's inland regions.

The Arab official, whose statement was reported by the Agriculture Minister, also expressed AAAID's readiness to examine co-operation programmes proposed by Tunisia and speed up achievement of the priority projects.

Mr. Jellali said bilateral co-operation projects would meet the needs of the interior regions, such as the Sidi Bouzid dairy plant which has not been set up yet despite the increase in local milk production.

He also mentioned the projects of fruits and vegetables collecting and distribution platforms and hydraulic works needed for the creation of new irrigation areas.
