MANAMA: Forty out of 54 banks are complying with the prescribed Bahrainisation rates, making up nearly 75 per cent of banks operating in Bahrain, according to latest statistics released by Labour Market Regulatory Authority.

The law stipulates that Bahrainisation rates in the banking sector shouldn’t be less than 50pc of the total number of jobs, the head of parliamentary probe committee in charge of investigating Bahrainisation of jobs in public and private sectors, Ibrahim Al Nafea, told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

The banking sector relies to a great extent on local staff. More than 90pc of employees in 10 banks are Bahrainis, he pointed out.
