GAZIANTEP, Turkey, Jan 3 (KUNA) -- Head of the Kuwait Municipal Council Abdulrahman Al-Humeidan and Head of the Turkish city of Gaziantep's Municipal Council Asem Kozal Bay co-chaired the inauguration ceremony of Kuwait Street in Gaziantep city, south Turkey Thursday.

The ceremony was also attended by Gaziantep Governor Suleiman Kanisik, President of Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce Mehmet Aslan, Charge D'Affaires of Kuwait Embassy in Ankara Dyab Al-Rashidi as well as many local people.

In his address to the ceremony, Al-Humeidan voiced great joy at the decision of Gaziantep Municipal Council to name the street after Kuwait and hailed the close ties between Kuwait and Turkey.

The relations between the two Muslim nations are deeply-rooted and expand steadily day after day, he pointed out.

Al-Humeidan who visited Gaziantep last year to attend a local festival voiced admiration of the development of the Turkish industrial city.

Meanwhile, Kozal Bay hailed the progress of Turkish-Kuwaiti ties in the political, economic and cultural fields.

"The decision of Gaziantep Municipal Council to name the street after Kuwait reflects the importance attributed by our city to the relationship with Kuwait," he pointed out.

The twinning between Gaziantep and Kuwait City last year gave an impetus to the friendly ties between the two cities, Kozal Bay noted.

For his part, Al-Rashidi thanked the local officials of the Turkish city for their hospitality and hoped for more progress in bilateral ties.

The visit of His Highness the Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to Turkey in April, 2007, provided a big momentum to the bilateral ties, he recalled.
