JEDDAH -- The head of the health education committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) said the Ministry of Health intends to deliver treatments for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to patients at their homes, Al-Hayat newspaper reported.

Dr. Wafaa Fakieh said patients can call the ministry and are given the choice between collecting the medicine from a hospital or having it delivered to their home.

The committee is conducting a two-night awareness program with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health on the prevention of contagious diseases among adolescents.

During the program, free medical examination packs will be distributed to allow people to self-examine themselves in the privacy of their homes. In case of a positive result, the patient can call the Ministry of Health and ask for appropriate treatment, which the patient can pick up at a hospital or have delivered to avoid any embarrassment.

One of the important diseases that will be focused on is chlamydia.

Fakieh said that it was an easily treated disease if diagnosed early enough. Other STIs and their symptoms will also be discussed and sufferers are encouraged to seek early treatment
