KUWAIT, Sept 7 (KUNA) --
1961 -- H.H. the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issues Amiri Decree 26/61 on the Kuwaiti flag. It states that the national flag of the State of Kuwait takes a horizontal shape, its length double its width, and is divided into three equal colored horizontal sections with red on top, followed by white and then green. The flag also has a black trapezoid with its larger base towards the flagpole and equal to its width and its top equal to the width of the white horizontal section.
The flag is raised on government buildings, the H.H. the Amir's residences, embassies and Kuwaiti ships. It is lowered to a half mast in case of official mourning.
1961 -- The first issue of the English-language "Kuwait Times" hits the streets for the first time, with Yousef Al-Olaiyan as its editor-in-chief.
1964 -- Kuwait joins the Arab Organization for Administrative Sciences.
1990 -- Kuwait signs the Children's Rights Agreement.
2000 -- First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah represents Kuwait at the UN Millennium Summit Conference convening in New York.
During his speech before the summit, Sheikh Sabah calls on the world to join efforts to refuse resolving problems among peoples and states with methods that do not conform to UN and peace principles.
He also stresses that Kuwait categorically refuses the enslavement of people and depriving them of their rights under any circumstances, by any political regime even it were the regime in a country to which they belonged.
2005 -- Fatah (girls) Club member Manar Al-Jazzaf becomes the first Kuwaiti female player to enter the international tennis lists.
2005 -- National Gas Company is established as a closed shareholding company with a capital of one million Kuwaiti dinars.
