DUBAI, Aug 11th, 2010: The Minister of Environment & Water Dr Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad has issued a resolution temporarily banning all imports of all live cloven-hoofed animals and products from Russia following confirmed cases of mouth-and-foot disease in sheep, cows and pigs in some Russian areas.
The resolution follows alerts from the World Organization for Animal Health, or OIE and seeks the protection of the UAE's animal resources from any infections and contagious diseases. The ban also includes the transiting of such live animals and products through the UAE. FMD is a highly contagious and sometimes fatal viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals, including domestic animals.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2010.
