The UAE will soon have its first bunch of instructors in trauma and life support management to pilot a training programme for the medical staff at the national level.

This will develop as the UAE National Medical Simulation Centre (NMSC), which will work to get accreditation for the UAE as an international training centre for trauma and life support from the U.S. Basic Trauma and Life Support International Council (BTLS).

For this purpose the NMSC has organised a five-day medical symposium on resuscitation and trauma management to provide training in trauma care to medical cadres in the country.

The event, dubbed as the Second Emirate-Canadian Symposium on basic Trauma and Life Support, was recently conducted at the Ajman University for Science and Technology.

Dr Hamdi Al Shahir, Director of the university, in his opening speech, said the event is of utmost importance since it provides a comprehensive training course on the latest procedures implemented internationally in the field of trauma management.

Dr Taha Ibrahim, Director of the trauma training programme at the NMSC and member of the BTLS, said the symposium was part of the educational programmes to upgrade the skills of local medical staff.

Staff from Al Mafraq, Al Jazeera, Tawam, Al Ain and Zayed Military hospitals and several other hospitals were among those who attended the event.
