Damascus - Minister of Housing and Construction Hammoud al-Hussein said the national strategy for housing should give priority to the facilities and advantages included in the investment and real estate law which allowed investors to work in the field of housing in Syria.
Taking part in discussions with the UN delegation of Human Settlement Activities in Damascus on Sunday, Minister al-Hussein added that focus should not be restricted to big cities but rather to all rural and urban areas in Syria, especially the eastern parts.
For his part, UNDP Resident Representative Ismail Ould al-Sheikh Ahmad said the results reached so far by the experts in theses fields constitute a draft work plan that needs detailed workshops participated by everybody interested in housing issues in Syria.
Tarek al-Sheikh, a UN expert in housing issues, pointed out to the peculiar situation of housing in Syria as several official circles are responsible for dealing with this sector in terms of organization and planning.
