MUSCAT -- Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, yesterday said the development of national strategy of logistic services in the Sultanate (2014 -2040) is well paced as many teams have been formed to draft the strategy. He added that the strategy has completed the first phase of data collection and identifying the current situation. The second phase is concerned with the analysis of the data and visiting some of the developed countries in this area. Dr Al Futaisi, who chaired the meeting of the Working Group which is developing the strategy, said the strategy will feed Vision 2040 and its outputs will be one of the key aspects of the vision. He added that everyone agreed on a clear vision for the sector and that this sector would be the second largest contributor to the national economy sector in the Sultanate, and that the Sultanate would be among the best countries in the world in the logistics sector.
The meeting also provided many constructive suggestions and urgent solutions for the logistics sector adopted at this stage in accordance with the priorities and possibilities. He affirmed that the promotion and marketing elements are important factors in the national strategy on logistics as there is a working group covering this aspect and there will be a detailed study, as well as the marketing team is part of the strategy. The meeting was attended by members of the group, consisting of four members from the public sector and four from the private sector and three international experts from outside the Sultanate. The meeting also viewed the work mechanism of members of the working group agreed upon at the previous meeting with the formation of seven core teams of the main group, each one responsible for one sector.
The seven teams includes teams for promotion of logistics sector, technology and applications, promising business sectors, human development in logistics sector, logistic education, and infrastructure, as well as laws and regulations. Forty-five citizens and expats participated in the preparation of the strategy of logistics in the Sultanate, including academics, industrialists and businessmen, as well as representatives from the government and private sector.
