KUWAIT: A project to build a new sewage treatment plant at the southern part of the country is still in its design phase, announced a top Ministry of Public Works (MPW) official. He indicated that the Cabinet is seriously considering transferring the project through the Build-Operate-Transfer (B-O-T) system. The Head of the Ministry's Sewage Engineering Department, Mahmoud Karam said in a press statement that the project will be connected when a new water pump station in Al-Egaila is completed.

A new pipeline will be established to dispose treated waters to nearby destinations. The project is aimed to replace the current plant located in Al-Riqqa, which has reached its full capacity. Expansion cannot take place owing to space crunches, not to mention the fact that the ministry aims to build them as far away as possible. The project is being carried out as per the requirements of a rising population and future residential plans, Karam confirmed.

Meanwhile, the MPW official also revealed that a committee formed by the Cabinet to repair the Ghazali road's sewage problem, has already begun implementing the solutions that have been outlined in the final report that was adopted on July 28th. The committee, comprising representatives from the Environmental Public Authority, Public Authority of Industry(PAI), Ministry of Municipality Affairs, Ministry of Communications as well as the Ministry of Public Works, is currently working toward reaching an agre
ement on a joint work mechanism, as well as joint procedures that will be taken against violators, Karam said.

Separately, the MPW announced that among several projects for which tenders have been placed recently, is one that pertains to a project to construct a new building for the Ahmadi Security Directorate. The bidding for the project began in October 17, 2010, and will end on December 19, 2010, reported Al-Qabas. Among the projects that the MPW has planned are road projects that include building a street that connects the King Fahad road with the Fahaheel highway. Also , a project to establish a road to connect the Seventh Ring Road with the Camel Club in Kabad will be constructed. The project also includes maintenance work programs that connects main roads with sewage pipelines.
