RIYADH — The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) announced that the Neom Bay Airport will be the first airport using the fifth generation (5G) wireless network service in the region.
“With the latest technologies, we are steadily moving towards the future,” the ministry said in its official Twitter page on Wednesday.
The tweet was accompanied by an illustration highlighting the words of Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, in which he said that NEOM is a destination for the future. The illustration shows that the airport enjoys high speed for the Internet and has a base for the application of modern technologies.
Meanwhile, NEOM announced the appointment of Aecom as an administrative consultant for a part of the giant project. The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced on Tuesday the opening of Neom Bay Airport situated in Sharma Area in the northern Tabuk region.
The airport’s registration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) was approved earlier with the symbol “NUM” and it is scheduled to receive its first commercial flight on June 30.
In its current phase, the airport will operate regular flights to transport investors and those working on the Neom project.
As one of the most modern and distinctive airports in the Middle East and strategically located at the border of three countries — Saudi Arabia Jordan and Egypt — it provides a new window to the Red Sea.
