Blacklisted firms are not allowed to bid independently or within groups
Saudi Arabia has blacklisted some contracting companies after discovering they have resorted to forgery to win government contracts, a newspaper in the world's dominant oil exporter reported on Tuesday.
The decision bans the blacklisted firms, which were not identified, from bidding for any government contract independently, within consortiums or as subcontractors, and from receiving project notification from any government establishment, the Arabic language daily Aleqtisadiah said, quoting "informed sources."
"Government departments took this decision against some contracting firms after auditing bodies discovered that they have forged certain documents to obtain bank guarantees from local and foreign banks for the government contract," it said.
"The decision also authorised the concerned establishments to seize the project and re-tender the contract in case the contractor is found to have resorted to forgery."
The paper said the government decided to take action as "one of the solutions" to tackle persistent delays and stalling in projects in the largest Arab economy.
