BEIRUT: Russia is to deliver MI-24 attack helicopters to Lebanon before the end of 2010, Defense Minister Elias Murr said Friday. Following a meeting with the head of the Russian Federal Committee for Military Cooperation, Mikhail Dmitriev, Murr added that the Lebanese-Russian agreement also included providing the Lebanese Army with tanks and other weapons. Prime Minister Saad Hariri is expected to discuss the issue with top Russian officials in an upcoming visit to Moscow. Asked whether Russia would provide Lebanon with anti-aircraft missiles, Dmitriev said “military cooperation between Lebanon and Russia should not threaten a third state but be a guarantee to security between our states and under the legal umbrella of the UN.” – The Daily Star
