Dubai: A team named Rowdy Cricketers is playing like champions.
Unlike their name they have been playing disciplined cricket and have won three out of their first three matches in the OSN Winter Indoor tournament at the International Cricket Academy at Dubai Sports City.
The victories have placed the side in a poll position to reach the semi-finals of the 12-team event that culminates with a final on January 11.
The ICC Academy has been regularly staging indoor cricket tournaments and the events are getting popular.
Maqbul Dudhia, the Dubai Sports City General Manager - Sports Business, said: “The OSN Winter Indoor Cricket Tournament has started off with a bang and it is yet another quality event at the ICC Academy at Dubai Sports City, a location which is currently excelling in hosting teams from around the city of Dubai, the UAE and from around the world.”
The Rowdy Team has raced past Transmed, Shell and Barclays Reds and one more win from its two remaining Pool matches would secure them a place among the last four.
Incidentally, the win against Shell included the highest total in the tournament so far of 107 runs Rowdy Cricketers are marching with confidence into closing stages of the opening phase.
The 12 teams are divided into two Pools of six with only the top two sides in each of those pools progressing to the knock-out stages.
The tournament is wide open as Danube, the indoor kings and victors in four previous events at the ICC Academy this year - is not taking part.
The indoor cricket with the format which sees each side face 12 overs per innings with batsmen batting in pairs for three overs each and five runs deducted every time a wicket falls is getting popular.
