Bahrain - Prices of many basic consumer goods and foodstuffs, especially dairy, cereals, tea, rice, cooking oils and cheeses, have declined thanks to promotions being offered by commercial outlets.

The price of Nada Milk Long Life, pack of four one litre containers, dropped to BD1.390 from BD1.955, while the price of some brands of Basmati rice, 20kg bags, decreased from BD11.500 to BD10.950, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej. The price of Red Cow Milk Powder, 2kg, decreased from BD4,470 to BD3.990.

The prices of fruit, vegetables and other fresh products were stable thanks to special offers available during the weekend, says the report.

Businessmen and shop owners confirmed that promotions have contributed to the stability and decline in the prices of many products and food commodities in particular.

Suppliers were keen on providing various options to suit consumers’ buying power, which resulted in a big turnout of shoppers, they added.

Food and consumer commodity prices are parallel to oil prices, given that energy prices are linked to the manufacture and supply of all commodities, they noted.

According to the report, citizens have confirmed a decrease in the prices of some basic materials. They pointed to major discounts and promotional offers in varying proportions and from various brands, offering options to suit different tastes.

Consumers praised strict measures taken by the authorities to deter any price hikes that might affect them.
