Doha - Qatar Telecom (Qtel) yesterday announced that, starting from May 21, the International Access code will be changed from a single '0' to '00' for all international calls, on both fixed and mobile Qtel networks, a release said.
"Qtel has re-configured its International Access systems in keeping with international standards," said Qtel's Chief Operating Officer (COO), Sheikh Fahad bin Jassim Al Thani. "Globally, the majority of countries use two zeroes or '+' on their mobile phones to access international telecommunications services and now Qatar's access code will change too."
Customers using mobile services with memories already programmed with '+' will not need to change the programming on their contacts list but if they have used a single zero, they will need to change to either '+' or '00'. All other pre-programmed equipment such as fax machines and computers that have a single '0' stored in memories will also need to be updated.
The migration to the new access code will be implemented at 2am on the morning of May 21 to minimise possible inconvenience to customers.
PABX and Key System customers - those who are using their own billing system and Call Details Recording (CDR) for international call charges - have been advised to update and re-programme terminals in line with this change and obtain the correct international call charges on their own billing systems after the two-digit access code ('00') implementation for international calls.
Qtel's strategy to apply universal customer service standards and to support its customer-focus thrust for 2007 are the reasons behind an extensive communications campaign to inform Qtel's customer base about this significant new change.
The campaign is designed to inform customers what they need to do in order to make the necessary changes in customer premises equipment (CPE), home and office telephone memories and mobile phones and PDA's contact lists.
