DOHA: Qatar Chemical Company Ltd (Q-Chem) held its annual Townhall meeting for all its employees at Regency Halls recently. The event was attended by the company's General Manager, Ahmed Ibrahim Al Emadi, group managers and head of departments as well as virtually all  employees.

Opening the meeting, Al Emadi expressed his gratitude to employees on achieving their 2010 targets and development plans in different fields.  

In a series of presentations, managers showed department performance in their facilities namely Q-Chem, Q-Chem II, and Ras Laffan Olefins Company (RLOC) located in Doha, Mesaieed, and Ras Laffan, respectively.

Last year Q-Chem II, a polyethylene (PE) and normal alpha olefins (NAO) plant in Mesaieed was inaugurated as was the RLOC plant, an ethane cracker in Ras Laffan.

"These two important projects came on line to cater to an ever increasing demand in the world markets," said Al Emadi, noting that the purpose of the meeting was also to review major achievements and evaluate the companies' efforts to maintain outstanding performance and profitability.

Future production plans and sustainable development were addressed with speakers focusing on the future but reiterating the importance of learning from past experience.  

The attendees renewed their commitment towards safety and environmental protection, stressing that Q-Chem is maintaining high standards in product stewardship. The company utilizes innovative international technologies in environmental preservation, as well as in health and safety of its employees and facilities to reduce risk and avoid incidents, which are of paramount importance.

Q-Chem has recently started applying Responsible Care® program, a comprehensive environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative that is embraced by outstanding companies throughout the chemical industry worldwide.

As part of Townhall meeting activities, employees had an opportunity to show their talents and abilities in a variety of competitions and quizzes intended for team building. This added team spirit and competitiveness between participants.

Later the senior management commended employees who performed excellently in developing safety environmental standards, increasing production, and establishing plans for continuous improvement and development.    

The 9 May Townhall was the first of four general sessions held with all Q-Chem direct hire and baseload contract employees where all present could interact with senior management.

Another Townhall session is also held every year for all Qatari employees with  senior management in order  to focus on  Qatarization efforts within Q-Chem.
