DOHA - The Qatar Centre for Presentation of Islam (QCPI) at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is being renamed as Qatar Islamic Cultural Centre (QICC).
This was stated here recently by the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, H E Faisal bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, while opening an exhibition on Islam titled 'the First Islamic Exhibition'. The exposition coincided with the Asian Games.
Faisal bin Abdullah later went around the exhibition and was briefed by the organisers about the exhibits. The objective of the expo is to provide information to the guests about the Arab and Islamic heritage and the Centre itself.
The minister lauded the efforts made by the Centre. He said the Centre is yet to formally have a name change.
"The Centre has entered a new phase," said the minister. Its board of directors has been appointed. The Centre has a director as well. It will be an integrated Centre with several departments to help fulfill its mission. With the name change come a new identity of the Centre and broad-based objectives.
The new logo has been selected carefully and the word "Fanar" used in it has various meanings, including having scientific, cultural and religious implications.
The minister said the Centre will have local and international focus. Recently, we received 14 Belgian Muslims and we organized a course for them.
