Abu Dhabi: It is bad news for the nearly 2000 entrants who took part in the BBC competition last year to design trousers for Ian Poulter. The talented 29-year-old golfer has decided to set up a clothing company and put out a range, which also has junior golfers in its target.
Poulter hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons when he played in the 2004 British Open wearing Union Jack trousers after which the BBC announced a competition the following year.
Speaking to the press here at the Abu Dhabi Golf Course yesterday, Poulter said he is seriously looking at setting up a clothing company and it could happen by the end of this year.
"It just means getting a couple of designers for me to feed them information of what I want to wear, let them go in and I guess come up with some nice designs that I approve and I guess get somebody to make them for me."
When asked whether he would sell them, Poulter answered in the affirmative. "That's what I would like to do. I'd like to get a whole range even for kids, because I think that the Juniors are crying out for some junior clothes that look good and they can sort of go out there and express themselves," Poulter said.
While it may be bad news for those who took a shot at designing his trousers, there seems to be some good news for Kevin Pieterson's hair-stylist.
The promising cricketer excelled with his cricket during the Ashes victory over Australia but what equally caught the eye was his hairstyle.
Poulter, whose hairstyle is very similar to that of the English cricketer, said he was yet to discuss haircuts with Kevin Pieterson.
A winner of six European Tour titles, Ian Poulter took up golf when he was just four years old and turned professional at the age of 19.
After joining the Tour via Qualifying School, Poulter won Rookie of the Year title in 2000. IIn 2004 Poulter won the Volvo Masters Andalucia at Club de Golf Valderrama and also made a successful Ryder Cup debut.
