MUSCAT -- A delegation of Dutch HIV/Aids experts arrived here yesterday on a three-day visit aimed at formalising the scope of a cooperation agreement signed by Oman and the Netherlands last year. On November 20, Oman and the Netherlands signed a covenant on co-operation in HIV/Aids as part of a broader Memorandum of Understanding on co-operation in the field of public health. The delegation is headed by Ton Coenen, Executive Director Aids Fund & STD Aids Netherlands; Janine Wildschut, Executive Director Mainline Foundation (NGO in the field of drugs use); and Marieke Ridder, Programme Manager STD AIDS Netherlands.

The delegation will meet with Dr Ahmed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, Dr Mohammed al Hosni, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health, officials of the Ministry, UN representatives, hospitals, and Al Hayat Association (NGO). The focus of the delegation will be on field work, harm reduction and vulnerable groups. The main purpose of the visit is to determine the precise fields of cooperation, contingent on Oman's needs and availability of relevant Dutch expertise.
