MUSCAT -- Khalfan bin Nasr Al Wahaibi, director-general of civil services, will inaugurate the ESWL (Extracorporeal Shocking Wave Lithotripsy) machine, the only one of its kind in the private health-care sector, here tomorrow at Badr Al Samaa's Ruwi premises at 8.30pm, Badr Al Samaa officials said yesterday.
This inauguration will be followed by a CME (continuing medical education) programme on the subject of 'recent advances in urolithiasis'.
Various topics related to this subject will be presented by speakers qualified in this subject like Dr Kurien George, a senior specialist, department of urology, Royal Hospital; Dr Prem of the Armed Forces Hospital and Dr Eddu S. Srinadh, urologist, Badr Al Samaa.
The professionals who attend the CME programme will be presented with a certificate of attendance, which is recognised by the Ministry of Health.
The hospital officials said that they expected more than 150 doctors to attend the CME. "Any number of doctors are most welcome," they said, adding that all of their past CMEs have been a major success.
Meanwhile, the state of the art lithotripsy machine is the latest of its kind and facilitates quick removal of kidney stones without any surgery, Abdul Latheef, managing director of Badr Al Samaa, said.
"The commissioning of this unit is part of Badr Al Samaa's massive expansion programmes," he said.
