A new project has got underway at al-Azm Palace in Hama to showcase its exhibits, completing recent projects of repair and restoration to highlight the Palace's cultural aspects.

Supervisor of the project Majd Hijazi said the plan is to be carried out in four halls. The first is a video hall where a film introducing the history of Hama and its geographical location can be screened.

The second hall includes maps and charts casting light on the ancient Hama and a maquette of the old neighborhood where the Palace is located, whereas the third embodies waterwheels industry famous in Hama and the tools used in it.

''The fourth hall, the biggest, will be dedicated to the traditional industries in Hama, such as printing graphics on clothes, brass industry, silk and cotton textile,'' he added.

Hijazi said the SP 6.5-million-cost scheme will be completed in 8 months. Al-Azm palace was built in 1740 on the Orontes River.

The Palace was recently repaired and a number of its main parts were revived, mainly the Great Gold Hall and the Fresco painting.
