More than 50 police officers studying courses in criminal investigation and Urdu graduated yesterday.

The 55 police officers, warrant officers and privates had been studying for the courses over the past two months.

The training courses were run by the Fujairah Police Department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior.

A total of 23 officers completed the 8-week training course in the Urdu language, which involved learning how to speak and read Urdu.

This will help them when dealing with suspects and witnesses who are unable to speak any other language.

An additional 32 officers completed a 4-week course on criminal research, which covered topics including investigative skills, how to recruit informers and control crime scenes.

"The two courses aimed to enhance our officers' skills and improve their performances through acquiring more information about security issues and combating crime and disorder," said Major Ali Rashid Bin Nayee, head of Planning and Development at Fujairah Police Department.

"The officers learned how to secure a crime scene without letting anyone near, to avoid destroying evidence," Maj Bin Nayee said.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ahmad Bin Ganem, Director-General of Fujairah Police Department, and Sharief Habib Al Awadi, Director-General of the Fujairah Free Zone Authority, honoured the participating officers and presented them with certificates of appreciation.
