MUSCAT -- Reflecting a new chapter in technological advancement and scintillating style, Nokia has launched its latest handsets that include the N9, E6 and C2 series, at a special ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt Muscat, yesterday.

The Nokia team, headed by Tom Farrell, General Manager, Nokia Lower Gulf, were joined by senior executives from their local representatives, Mohsin Haider Darwish (MHD) LLC, BellTell LLC and other specially invited guests and members of the press corps.

Farrell gave a presentation where he highlighted Nokia's new strategy, gave the latest updates and showcased the new products. The event allowed Nokia to share, with the assembled Omani media, its overall business and product strategy for the coming 12 months and discuss the individual features of the new handsets and their relevance to Nokia's differing customer- types.

As explained, the launch heralds Nokia's new strategy viz: from smartphones to mobile phones, from services to user interface design and from improved device experiences to developer tools, Nokia has concrete actions for growth and taking leadership across the board.

Innovation is at the heart of their strategy, particularly with their recent partnership with Microsoft that is expected to create market-leading mobile products and services designed to offer consumers, operators and developers unrivalled choice and opportunity.

Farrell noted, "The purpose of today's event is to underline our commitment and dedication to the Omani market by discussing our new strategy and introducing our latest products that are at the cutting edge of handset technology and useability. We are very grateful to our distributors in Oman who ensure that our customers are able to experience all that Nokia has to offer in the best way possible."

The N9, Nokia's latest smartphone that was announced in Singapore late last month, introduces an innovative new design, where the home key is replaced by a simple gesture: a swipe. With this innovation, there is no need for a home button, meaning the screen is all-encompassing. The three home views of the user interface are designed to give fast access to the most important things people do with a phone: using apps, staying up to date with notifications and social networks, and switching between activities.

It also packs the latest in camera, navigation and audio technology for a great all-round experience, while the details that make the Nokia N9 unique -- the industrial design, the all-screen user experience, and the expressive Qt framework for developers -- will evolve in future Nokia products. The Nokia N9 will be on sale in Lower Gulf in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Nokia has developed the E6 to become the essential smart device for anyone looking for seamless on the go social connectivity and engagement. The Nokia E6 also brings a unique touch and type user experience that was designed to help satisfy the different interactivity demands of the most social of users. The new Symbian Anna platform offers a host of usability enhancements, including fresh, new icons, improved text input, easier and faster Internet browsing experience. The Nokia E6 is now available throughout the Lower Gulf.

Nokia also added to its affordable phone portfolio with the launch of three new devices -- the Nokia C2-02, Nokia C2-03 and Nokia C2-06. All three offer a web, maps and messaging experience second to none in the market. Combined with the choice of a touch screen or a keypad, Nokia has made everything available and easy to use in an affordable phone that comes in both dual and single SIM options.

Six out of ten people in this region use Nokia phones, while worldwide more than 1.3 billion people connect to one another with a Nokia.
