MUSCAT -- National Bank of Oman (NBO) has announced its support for the launch of the first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project in Oman.

Titled 'Sustain Oman', the event is being organised for AIESEC members, from different parts of the Arab World, including Oman.

AIESEC is a student-run organisation with branches in many countries. AIESEC Oman, established in 2007, provides local students and fresh graduates, the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial leadership and professional skills among a global network of peers and companies, by taking part in leadership roles and internship programmes.

'Sustain Oman' is a unique project not only because of its vision of developing CSR in Oman but also because of the manner in which it aims to achieve that vision. The panel of high-profile speakers will discuss and define CSR in Oman and document a formal paper on the same.

Additionally, 20 Omani AIESEC students will be sponsored, to work in CSR related subjects, outside the Sultanate of Oman. Two of the students will also intern at National Bank of Oman, after they complete their internships outside the country.

Aisha al Kharusi, NBO's Head of Strategy and CSR said: "NBO is proud to support the first CSR event organised by the youth themselves. CSR is a very interesting area and we believe it is an integral part of our business strategy. Furthermore, at the event, we will be looking at defining CSR for the Oman market. What may suit corporate America might not be appropriate for our organisations, sectors and geographical areas."

NBO is a leader when it comes to CSR and has also received two CSR awards in 2007 and 2008 from World Finance UK. Additionally, 'NBO's Giving Back to Society' Campaign' has been active in several initiatives including Ramadhan charity initiatives, non-profit support both through cash donations and in-kind support.

Aisha al Mahrami, AIESEC's Director of External Relations said, "We are grateful to NBO for their support both financially and at an intellectual capacity. Receiving the support from a leading bank in the Sultanate makes us confident that this CSR project will exceed expectations. We are all keen to get on with the 'Sustain Oman' project, in order to capitalise on the work we have done so for hand in hand with NBO a CSR leader".
