HM King Mohammed VI enquired, Wednesday in Tangier, about the progress of the feasibility studies related to the creation of three new cities in northern Morocco, reported MAP news agency.

These are Ksar Sghir-Ksar Al Majaz which will be created on a surface of 1,500 ha, Melloussa-Jouamaa, 2000 ha, and Gueznaya, 1,070 ha.

The creation of these new cities comes to further strengthen the infrastructures of the Kingdom's northern region. It also aims at creating a solid platform to respond to the current and future demands as part of the large structuring projects envisaged in the region, in particular the Tangier-Mediterranean port and the free zones and tourism projects.

The Sovereign also launched the construction works creating a new urban pole called "Ibn Battouta".

The pole, 15 km away from the city of Tangier, will allow the construction of 16,000 housing units on a surface of 120 ha, at a cost of MAD 340 million.

Its creation aims at opening a new urban zone, preventing anarchic housing, promoting social housing and the rehousing of the inhabitants of many shantytowns.

Close to the employment zones, this pole comprises buildings of seven floors, social housing and villas.

On his arrival, the King was greeted by Taoufiq Hejira, Minister in charge of Housing and Urbanism, Mohamed Hassad, wali of the Tangier-Ttouan region, Ali Fassi Fihri, General Manager of the National office of Drinking Water (ONEP), the General Manager of AMENDIS company, the president of the city's council and the president of the Boukhalef Commune.
