MUSCAT -- Construct Altayf, a new plant specialising in metal engineering and truss structural manufacturing, will be formally launched in Buraimi Industrial Estate next month. Set up with a capital investment of RO 850,000, the facility is the second largest of its kind in the Sultanate in terms of its capacity of 500 tonnes per month of ironware. It is also the first of its kind in the Gulf region with a capability to fabricate truss structures for buses. The plant, set on a 40,000 sq mt plot at the industrial estate, has already commenced trial production within a 4,000 sq mt covered structure.
In the first phase, the facility is equipped to manufacture around 50 units of a total of 500 tonnes of ironware per month. According to Mohammed Mubarak al Hajri, Director, the launch of the project is a dream come true. "This dream is in the first stages, and we have big ambitions for our future growth. We have already established the right foundations for the project through the recruitment of a highly experienced, multinational workforce."
Al Hajri commended the support extended by the government to Omani entrepreneurs. "The government has nurtured an environment that is conducive to the establishment of industrial projects of different types. Utilities like gas, electricity and water are also made available at reasonable rates. In addition to the development of support infrastructure, such as roads and harbours, domestic industry will be able to exploit the benefits of initiatives like the Free Trade Agreement, Double Taxation Avoidance, and so on, to further develop and expand their businesses."
According to Engineer Salieb Zakaria, General Director, the factory is equipped to fabricate trusses for trailers, fixed and movable tanks and all specialist works for petroleum companies. The plant, he added, will be progressively expanded for the fabrication of steel building structures, as well as structural attachments for refuse and water carriers. The new facility will be equipped to fabricate truss structures for buses, ambulances, fire trucks and goods carriers of a capacity of 600 vehicles a year in the initial phases.
