Muscat - Oman will host the first ever MED2020 forum to showcase best practices in the world of medicine, at the InterContinental Muscat on October 26 and 27.

Organised under the theme 'Transforming the Future of Medicine in the MENA region for Superior Healthcare Outcomes', the forum is a platform for sharing  knowledge and experience. "The key to staying ahead is being prepared. This forum is specifically designed to discuss the innovations in medicine and ways to implement it.

"The health of any population can be improved only through the implementation of transformational models of care," Dr Rabi F Sulayman, chairman of the organising committee was quoted in the release as saying.

"The theme of this year's forum has been designed to held attendees stay up to date on the latest advancements in healthcare in relation to new and innovative therapies as well as patient and practice management," said Jamil Sultan, director, W J Towell Group, organisers of the event.

Sultan elaborated on the forum's significance against the backdrop of changes and developments in Oman's expanding healthcare sector.

"The hospitals in Oman provide high quality healthcare and the quality of service being provided is good for a middle-income country. A majority of the advanced hospitals and healthcare centres are located in Muscat such as The Royal Hospital and the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital."

He said while the nation's medical sector cannot be compared to other developed countries, the "government is trying to develop this sector and encourage more students to study medicine".

International experts with specialisations in the fields of cardiology, metabolic syndromes, blood disorders, anti-ageing, paediatrics, trauma and critical care and global health will take part in the forum.
