Angouran mine in Zanjan province produced 122,748 tons of lead and zinc ingots in the first two months of the current Iranian year (started March 21).

This indicates a 35-percent growth compared with the corresponding figure of last year, which was 90,808 tons, IRNA reported.

Iran was expected to extract 70,000 tons of lead and zinc ingots during March 21-May 21. However, the current figure indicates a 75-percent growth against the forecast.

This year, 102,827 tons of minerals were transferred to production companies, including 12 processing and 68 zinc ingot production companies.

The report said it was expected that by the yearend, 733,534 tons of minerals will be extracted from Angouran mine. However, if the current trend were to continue, the figure will exceed expectations.

In January, a report released by the website of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) said Iran is known as the second holder of Zinc reserves in the world.

The lead and zinc mines of Yazd province has been considered for the production of 6.4 million tons of zinc ingots, 1.6 million tons of lead ingots and 2,313 tons of silver.

About 7.8 percent of zinc as well as 2.2 percent of lead and silver and other minerals are produced from every ton of soil extracted from Mahdi-Abad mine in Yazd province, the report released.

The most important minerals of the mine are 12-14 percent of manganese and 25-30 percent of iron, IMIDRO said.
