DAMASCUS, (SANA) - United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous, on Tuesday said that his visit to Syria, which is his second, is part of the Security Council resolution no. 2059 which extended the observer mission for thirty days.

In statements to the press at Dama Rose Hotel, Ladsous said that there are significant developments on the ground regarding the level of violence and the use of heavy weaponry.

"we must evaluate the situation on the ground... this is also an opportunity to present the new leadership of the mission, Gen. Babacar Gaye, who will arrive this evening and assume his post in the place of Gen. Robert Mood," he said.

Ladsous also said that he will be holding many meeting during the next three days.
