KUWAIT -- Kuwait's Hawally Medical Area is serving around a million people, a health ministry official said Sunday and noted that Hawally governorate was one of Kuwait's densly populated with many shopping malls, restaurants, embassies and public facilities.

Director of Hawally Medical Area Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Farhoud, in a press release marking the publication of the Area's 2009 report, said the governorate witnessed the opening of health clinics in Al-Salam and Al-Zahra Areas, while designating Al-Jabriya Medical Center as a training place for Family Medicine.

Al-Farhoud said also opening were clinics for diabetes, nutrition, asthma, blood pressure and fat.

The official said Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital's expansion would be finalized soon. The new four-storey extension building will have 236 beds.
