CAIRO, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Society for Formative Arts will take part in the 10th International Cairo Benali for Formative Arts next Tuesday along with 58 countries among them 17 Arab countries under the auspices of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Six artists from Kuwait will be participating in the 20-day art exhibition namely Chairman of the Kuwait Society for Formative Arts and Vice Chairman of the International Society for Formative Arts Abdelrasoul Sulaiman, Treasurer of the society and board member Khaled Al-Shatti, Mahmoud Ashkanani, Abbas Malek, Bader Hayati and Qasem Yaseen.
In statements to KUNA, Head of the formative arts department at the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and Head of the Benali Mohsen Shaalan praised the Kuwaiti participation in the Benali which is held every two years at the modern arts museum and described it as a "distinguished" participation.
Shaalan said this year's Benali, which will be inaugurated by the Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni, will group prominent artists, Director of the National Gallery for Modern Arts in Rome who will also head the judging panel, Director of the Contemporary Arts Museum in Milano, Director of the Modern Arts Museum in France and Director of the Modern Arts Museum in Mexico.
Two honorary presidents will be chosen during this gathering namely Salah Taher from Egypt and Director of the Armitage Museum in Moscow, he added.
He said the Benali, which is considered one of the largest exhibitions for art in the Arab World and the Middle East will include the participation of four artists from France, South America, Philippines and Macedonia.
A number of prizes will be presented in the exhibition; the first worth USD 9,000 and the next five each worth USD 5,000 for the most distinguished work.
Chairman of the Kuwait Society for Formative Arts is expected to give a lecture at the Benali's international seminar.
