Youth group calls for mass rally tomorrow
Manama: Kuwaits government has confirmed that Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Al Sabah has accepted the resignation of interior minister Shaikh Jaber Khalid Al Jaber Al Sabah and the appointment of Shaikh Ahmad Al Humood Al Jaber Al Sabah to replace him.
The Emir accepted the resignation in appreciation of the determination of Shaikh Jaber to assume the responsibilities of his vital mission, Radhwan Abdul Aziz Al Radhwan, state minister for cabinet affairs, said, quoted by Kuwait News Agency (Kuna). Shaikh Jaber had offered his resignation on January 13, two days after the death of a Kuwaiti citizen Mohammad Al Mutairi in police custody, but was told to keep the portfolio.
Meanwhile, a youth group called for a mass rally outside parliament tomorrow to protest the governments undemocratic practices and to press for its ouster.
The group, Fifth Fence, said it is using Twitter, the US-based microblogging service that allows people to use mobile phones and computers to broadcast short text messages, to urge people to gather in large numbers for the protest.
