A French delegation, led by senator and vice-president of the Rhone-Alpes region Jean Besson, visited Sunday the rural commune of Oulmes (Khemisset province), where environmental projects will be carried out under the aegis of the Rabat-Sal-Zemmour-Zaer region, reported MAP news agency.
Members of the delegation listened to explanations concerning the project to create a 450-hectare natural park on the central plateau. It will be the first of its kind in Morocco.
This park aims to promote the eco-tourist concept in Morocco. It will be made up of a nature reserve (Safari-park), an amusement park, a tourist complex, a golf course and a sporting complex.
The members of the delegation will take part in the international meeting of the Four Economic Motors for Europe, which unites for the first time in Skhirat six European regions: Lombardy (Italy), Catalonia (Spain), Baden Wurtemberg (Germany), Rhone-Alpes (France), Wales (Great Britain) and Flanders (Belgium).
In the same vein, two sustainable-development projects were launched in Khemisset province last week. They are part of the 2005-2006 afforestation campaign.
The first project, worth MAD 1,325,197, on an area of 179 ha, is part of the implementation of a plan to safeguard the Mamora Forest. It aims at safeguarding a unique forest species: Cork Oak.
The second project, worth over MAD 2,700,000, relates to the afforestation and the establishement of a garden and a sports hall in Oued Beht, Khemisset province.
"This project is part of the rehabilitation programme of the Mamora Forest by the creation of a leasure space. The forest is exploited socially and economically. It has also to be exploited recreationally, both for Khemesset population and highway users," stressed the High Commissioner for Water, Forests and the Fight against Desertification, Abdeladim Lhafi.
