Abu Dhabi, April 25th, 2010 (WAM) -- Kalima, the translation initiative of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) has announced its continued commitment to the publication of the Arabic language versions of the Animal series, from Reaktion Books.

This series has been written by a number of prominent international writers, scholars, and specialists.

KALIMA has so far published five books of the bestselling series in the United Kingdom, which included nearly 600 illustrations, predominantly in colour.

They are Horse - written by Elaine Walker and translated into Arabic by Rami Al Beiruti.

Horse chronicles the rich and complex natural history of these animals. It looks at both wild feral horses and the domesticated species that once played a central role in our daily lives as a means of transportation, an instrument of war, and a source of labour.

Falcon - written by Helen Macdonald and translated into Arabic by Ahmed Khreis.

Helen Macdonald describes the complete history of the bird, ranging across the globe over a period of many millennia, and incorporates the latest scientific discoveries.

Owl - written by Desmond Morris and translated into Arabic by Aziz Subhi Jabber (revised by Ahmed Khreis).

Morris describes the evolution, the number of species, and the widespread distribution of owls around the world. Excluding Antarctica, owls are found on every land mass, and they range in size from twenty-eight centimetres (the Least Pygmy Owl) to more than seventy centimetres in height (the Eurasian Eagle Owl). Crow - written by Boria Sax and translated into Arabic by Esmeralda Hmidan.

This book documents the roles of crows, ravens, magpies and their relatives in myth, literature and life. Peacock - written by Christine E. Jackson and translated into Arabic by Yara Al Badaui.

This is the first book to bring together all the facts of the peacock, including natural and social history, its role in religions and mythology in the East and West, and its place in the history of art and artefacts.
