India-based Jet Airways plans to cancel about 40 flights a week on seven Gulf routes from December 5, reports said.

Jet Airways has decided to withdraw its services to Doha from Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram as well as to Abu Dhabi from Lucknow and Mangalore. Besides, the airline will also not operate on Mangalore-Dubai route, a source said.

This apart, the services on Delhi-Muscat route are also being withdrawn from this month, a report said.

The airline is reported to be in financial difficulties and the latest move is aimed at trimming unviable flights and adding new ones where it hopes to make money, said an Economic Times report.

However, the airline claimed that the scale of its operations will remain unchanged.

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways holds 24 per cent stake in the domestic full service carrier.
