Mashhad, Khorassan Razavi prov IRNA - Visiting President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Khatami arrived in this provincial holy city, capital of northeastern
Khorassan Razavi province, on Thursday morning. The two presidents were highly welcomed at Mashhad International Airport by provincial Governor General Hassan Rasouli and a number of other senior officials.
The two presidents are scheduled to visit the border city of Taibad neighboring Afghanistan where they are to attend the inaugural ceremony of the 123-km Dogharoun-Herat road.
The road was built by Iranian experts as a part of Tehran`s assistance for the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Iran pledged to provide a dlrs 560 million aid for Afghanistan reconstruction during the country`s donor states 2002 summit in Tokyo, Japan.
Meanwhile, a number of other development projects for Afghanistan,completed by Iranian experts, are to be inaugurated in the presence of President Karzai and President Khatami in the region including 300 bridges, seven border stations and an electricity supply post for Herat province in Afghanistan.
The projects are reportedly completed at a cost of dlrs 60 million also provided by Iran.
President Karzai arrived in Iran on Wednesday heading a ranking political and economic delegation on a two-day official visit and has so far met with a number of senior officials including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Chairman of Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Hadad-Adel.
