Muscat: The Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (Muscat Chapter) inaugurated their 6th International Conference under the theme "Moving to a new world order -- Role for Finance Professionals'' on Friday.

CA Anuradha Venkatkrishnan Chairperson of ICAI Muscat Chapter welcomed the dignatories and the participants and elaborated about the Chapter activities and also set the tone of the theme of the conference.

Abdullah Al Salmi, Executive President Capital Market Authority (CMA), inaugurated the seminar and spoke on the role of various professionals in the operation of capital market and in particular on the role of finance professionals in good reporting and meeting disclosure requirement in corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) etc. He also emphasised the role of CMA in ensuring the availability of adequate capital for infrastructure development.

CA K. Raghu, President of the ICAI informed that the institute, the second largest accounting body in the world with around 240,000 members, is churning out highly skilled and efficient finance professionals.

J.S Mukul, Indian Ambassador to Oman, stated that the ICAI Muscat Chapter is doing a commendable job in promoting knowledge sharing and mutual learning seminars which increases skills of the members as well as of local resident participants.

Meera Sanyal, Former CEO & Chairperson of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), in her address said that the role of auditors has changed from watchdogs to conscious keepers due to increasingly reported fraud scams in corporates and ripple effect of such scams has trickled down to stringent regulations. She also stated that what looks straight may not be very simple and can lead to serious implication as far as the fair view is concerned. She specified that finance professional are the custodians and interpreter of the Maze.

Dr Hatem Shanfari, Board member of Central Bank of Oman (CBO) and Oman chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), spoke on new world order -- paradigm shift to move towards global goals/objective.

During his speech he presented statics on various economic indicators such as GDP and debt of various countries and global competitive indices and highlighted Oman and India's position compared to other developed countries. He stated that there would be paradigm shift of economic power from Western world to Asia. He also touched upon energy outlook in new world order.

Sandeep Gudavalli, Alex Pavan and Mohamad Al Jamil from ITON, elaborated on the technological advancement in mobile applications which integrate ERP business applications and also on unique tool SMAC (Social, Media, Analytical & Cloud) which comprise of text message marketing campaign, social media campaign, used widely in the present day context.
