A number of road projects are currently under construction in the Saudi holy city of Mecca, at a total cost of approximately USD 1.89 billion (SAR 6.9 billion), an official source told Zawya.
The source said on condition of anonymity that the roads will extend to a distance of more than 2,800 kilometers and will be constructed through a series of projects; namely completing the construction of a dual road branching from Jeddah-Jazan; a dual road connecting Bisha-Ranya-Al Kharma to Riyadh highway (first and second phase); transforming Jeddah-Jazan coastal road into a highway (phase two); completing the construction of Turbat Al Qawama-Jarb road; finishing the ring road in Ta'if; completing a dual road passing Al Ta'if-Baha-Abha; and completing the second phase of the intermediate ring road of Mecca. This is in addition to a number of other road projects spanning various governorates across the Kingdom.
As previously announced by the Saudi ministry of finance, a total of SAR 65 billion of the current year's budget has been allocated to the roads and transport sector, for the purpose of completing road works in a number of areas throughout Saudi Arabia. Moreover, works will also include the development of several airports and ports; together with supporting the real estate development fund for providing housing loans to citizens; as well as completing infrastructure works of the industrial cities in Jubail, Yanbu and Ras Al Khair.
